I know I have come late to the party but I have recently been reading a number of CS Lewis quotes. I was going to write a Thought for the Day on one of them but many spoke to me and I could not choose. Then last week I was watching a weekly webinar for children and youth leaders run by the London Diocese. Revd Susy Dand was talking about prayer spaces in schools and how they can be translated to home. After looking through the resources I could see how a number of the quotes to could tie in with the prayer activities, so today’s Thought for the Day is a little different.

For each quote there will be an activity (click here for resource). They are suitable for all ages and are not tricky to set up.

1 -        “God intends to give us what we need, not what we now think we want.” – The Problem of Pain
Be Still - try to discern what God is saying to you not what you want him to say.

2 -        “You may forget that you are at every moment totally dependent on God.” – Mere Christianity
Calm Jar – lay your worries at His feet. Jesus died that you may pass your burdens to him.

3 -        “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” – Essays on Forgiveness

Fizzy Forgiveness – it is sometimes easier to hold on to anger or hatred towards others. Forgive them that you might be free.

4 -        “This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.” – Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Pray for the World – That they might know Jesus here to know Him better there.

5 -        “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” – The Problem of Pain

Biq Questions – If you were in a room with God, what question would you ask?

6 -        “The instrument through which you see God is your whole self. And if a man’s self is not kept clean and bright, his glimpse of God will be blurred.” – Collected Letters of CS Lewis

Letting Go – cast your worries on Him. Cleanse yourself of your worries and open your eyes to His Glory.

Prayer
Father God I pray that through these actions of prayer I might move closer to you.
