Vicar's update 21st JuneSteve Newbold1

I hope you are well.
Yesterday I announced the news that Sam Sanya has been appointed as Associate Vicar of St John’s Church in West Ealing.  Although the job title is ‘associate’ Sam will have overall responsibility for St John’s but will work closely with colleagues at St Mellitus and St Paul’s Churches who are now in an informal team.  Sam’s last Sunday with us will be 25th July and he will start work at St John’s in early September.  We will miss the Sanya family enormously but are glad that they will not be living far away.

We are continuing our series looking at the life of the early church through the book of Acts.  Yesterday Caroline Newbold spoke from Acts 5 about the importance of honesty and integrity in our Christian lives.  You can catch up here.
Although the next stage of the unlocking of national restrictions has been delayed for a few more weeks there are many things that we are now permitted to do.  Therefore,

  • to make it easier to attend church at short notice we have decided that you will no longer need to pre-book a place but your details will still be recorded by the Welcome Team so that we comply with track and trace.
  • also, as people can be with others in groups of up to 6 or in two household groups we will put out more seats for you to choose where and how to sit.

We are currently advertising for a new Youth Pastor and details are on our website here.  We’d appreciate you sharing this with contacts in other churches if you can.
Urmila Kurkalang will be ordained Deacon at St Paul’s Cathedral on Saturday 3rd July and if you would like to sign a card for her, one will be available in church on Sunday. Alternatively, you can give your own card to Caroline Newbold who will be attending the service.
Remember Covid vaccinations are open to anyone over 18 so do encourage those in your families and friendship groups who are eligible to book via the NHS website asap or simply turn up to a pop-up centre.  As the Government have said we are now in a race to defeat the virus by vaccinating as many people as possible, so that we can look forward to greater freedoms in July.
This coming week we have:

  • Morning Prayer on Tuesday and Thursday at 9am
  • Holy Communion on Wednesday at 11am
  • Alpha on Thursday at 8pm

  • Services - 9am and 11am in Church and 11am Livestreamed
  • JAM – children’s groups 9.30am and 10am.

If you need any Zoom passcodes please contact me direct.
