Vicar's update 15th October
It was a busy but fulfilling weekend at St Stephen’s. As we continue through the autumn there’s lots more happening.
Tomorrow evening (5-7pm) we are holding our Light Party for children age 5-11. Instead of taking part in Halloween activities, bring your children and their friends along to our fantastic party as we have lots of fun celebrating light triumphing over darkness. You can still book your places via the Church Website here.
On Saturday (3rd) we are holding our Alpha day – a really important part of the Alpha course. Many of you will have already done an Alpha day and will know how significant it is – please pray for all those attending this year.
This Sunday our All Age Worship at 10.30am will be led by our young people– please come along to support them. Also on Sunday morning we will have an extended fairtrade stall selling lots of Advent and Christmas goods – do come prepared to buy your cards, paper and other seasonal goods. In the evening Open to God is at 6.30pm and Ash Abbott will be speaking.
Thank you to those who have already returned their Financial Pledge Card. To those who haven’t, please do so this coming Sunday. We need everyone to play their part in giving to God’s work through this local church so that we can meet the financial challenges that face us. Please prayerfully consider how you should respond.
Finally, we are now entering the season of remembrance culminating in Remembrance Sunday on 11th November. This year has particular significance since it marks exactly 100years since the end of the First World War. During our 10.30 morning service we will observe the national 2 minutes silence at 11am. In the evening have a special Service at 6.30pm with a focus on those whose names were listed on the WW1 War Memorial in the old church building. This Sunday you will be given a booklet to pass onto a neighbour or friend that includes some thoughts and ways to respond to this time of year.
Have a good week.
