Vicar's update 19th FebruarySteve Newbold 2017 web2

Yesterday we launched our Church Lent appeal supporting the Diocese Tackling Homelessness Together.  If you missed my talk, please do listen here and use Lent to consider how you might give as generously as you can to help the thousands of homeless people in our city.

A special thanks to our Chinese friends who yesterday helped us celebrate Chinese New Year with some delicious snacks at Café.

Next Sunday as well as our usual morning services, Open to God is at 6.30pm.  I will be speaking about Hearing God’s speak in Lent and Mark Tate will be leading our sung worship.  Also at the lunchtime People and Planet Gathering John and Sally Anniss will be talking about the work of Compassion, whose mission is to release children from poverty through child sponsorship.  They will share about their recent trip to Haiti to meet the children they sponsor.  Stay for a shared lunch from 12.30pm or turn up to hear the talk at 1.45pm.
Our Lent Course starts on Thursday at 7.30pm.  If you are not in a Connect Group this may be the thing for you to help you go a bit deeper this Lent.  Speak to Ajay More for further information.
Finally, if you are new to St Stephens, our next Welcome Tea is on Sunday 4th March – please let Caroline Newbold know if you can come.
Have a good week.
With best wishes
