What is a Christingle?
Ever wandered what a Christingle and Christingle Service is? Well wonder no more!
A Christingle, meaning 'Christ's Light', is a symbolic object to help children understand the importance of Jesus and the Gospel.
Each Christingle is made up of different parts:
An Orange - this is to represent the world
A Red Ribbon (or sometimes red tape or paper frill) - this is a symbol of the blood of Jesus Christ and his love for us
Sweets and Dried Fruit (on four cocktail sticks) - these represent the fruits of the earth and the four seasons
A Lit Candle - which represents the light of Jesus in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness.
The Christingle Service
This is a service aimed at Children although can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They come in many different formats but usually include carols or hymns, prayers, readings and a nativity.
At St Stephen's we enjoy an enthusiastic and vibrant service and encouage Children, and adults too, to dress as one of the Nativity characters.
